View detailsPellet stoves are only as good as the fuel. Good wood pellets are made from compressed, dried sawdust with no added binders, have a low moisture content and leave very little ash. Poor pellets crumble into dust, burn unevenly and clog the burn pot, so buy a consistent product and store it dry.
Plan your usage. A pellet stove on a medium setting typically uses around 1–2 kg of pellets an hour, so a 15 kg bag lasts roughly one to two evenings of heating. For a full Cape winter, many households buy a pallet up front and store it in a garage off the floor.
Our wood pellets are sold in 15 kg bags from R158 incl. VAT, and in bulk pallets for regular users. Keep bags sealed until use — pellets swell and break down if they absorb moisture.
If you are still choosing a stove, see our pellet fireplaces, which run on a thermostat and feed themselves from a hopper. Pellet stoves need a correctly sized flue and a power point, and are installed to SANS 10400 Part V. We install within 200 km of Cape Town — the City, Northern and Southern Suburbs, the Cape Winelands, Overberg and West Coast — and courier anywhere in South Africa.
Progress Group has supplied and installed fireplaces, braais and heating in the Western Cape since 1990. Visit our Bellville showroom to see units in person, or send us photos and measurements of your space for a free written quote. We confirm stock, delivery dates and every installation cost before you pay, so there are no surprises on the day.
Roughly 8–15 hours of heating, depending on the stove and setting — about one to two evenings for most homes.
Keep bags sealed, off the floor and away from damp. Moist pellets swell, crumble and can block the stove's feed.
Yes. We deliver bags and pallets across Cape Town and the Western Cape and courier anywhere in South Africa.
No. Pellets need a pellet stove with an auger feed and burn pot. In a wood fireplace they smother the fire.
