FAQ

Fireplace questions from Cape Town customers.

Do you install fireplaces in Cape Town?+

Yes. Progress Group installs closed combustion, wood-burning, gas, pellet and insert fireplaces across Cape Town — from Sea Point and the CBD to Constantia, Table View, Bergvliet and the Southern Suburbs. All installs are SANS 10400 and SANS 827 compliant with a 5-year warranty (excluding lighting).

Which fireplace is best for a Cape Town winter?+

Cape Town winters are cold, wet and windy. A sealed closed combustion or gas fireplace is the most efficient choice — it handles Cape Doctor drafts, uses less wood and keeps rooms warm through the wet Berg fronts. For heritage and open-plan homes we usually specify a 10–14 kW closed combustion unit.

How much does a fireplace cost in Cape Town?+

Freestanding wood fireplaces start from around R11,000 incl. VAT, closed combustion inserts from R16,500 incl. VAT with flue kit, and premium gas or pellet fireplaces range from R25,000 to R60,000+ depending on kW output and finish. Installation and flue kits are quoted per site.

Do I need a permit for a fireplace in Cape Town?+

The City of Cape Town requires SANS-compliant flue installation and, for gas, a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) from a registered gas installer. Progress Group handles both — our crews issue CoCs and install flues to code so you're covered for insurance and occupancy.

How far is your showroom from Cape Town?+

Our Bellville showroom at 189 Durban Road is roughly 25 km / 20 minutes from the Cape Town CBD, and free on-site quotations across the metro are standard.
