If you are searching for a fireplace shop in Cape Town, the best choice is one where you can see the fireplace burning or standing in front of you, get a written quote that includes the flue, and have the same company install it. Progress Group's showroom is at 189 Durban Road, Bellville, and we supply and install closed-combustion, insert, gas and pellet fireplaces across the Western Cape.
Why see a fireplace in a showroom first
Photos hide the details that decide whether you will be happy in five years: the size of the glass, the height of the unit, how the door opens and how much space the flue needs. A showroom lets you compare these side by side and ask questions before you spend money.
Bring three things with you: the room's approximate size, a photo of the wall or existing opening, and the budget you have in mind for the fireplace and installation together.
The five fireplace types you will see
- Closed-combustion (slow combustion) fireplaces: a sealed fire chamber that burns wood efficiently and gives steady heat. Browse the closed-combustion range.
- Insert fireplaces: fitted into an existing masonry opening to turn an open fire into an efficient heater. See insert fireplaces.
- Gas fireplaces: instant, clean flames at the touch of a button, installed with a gas certificate of conformity. See gas fireplaces.
- Pellet fireplaces: automated, low-mess heating that burns compressed wood pellets. See pellet fireplaces.
- Built-in braais: for outdoor entertaining, covered separately in our braai range.
What to ask any fireplace dealer
- Is the flue included in the quote? A fireplace without the correct flue kit does not work safely. Ask for the flue diameter, length and insulation in writing.
- Who installs it, and how far do they travel? We install within 200 km of Cape Town. Further away we courier anywhere in South Africa at additional cost.
- What is the warranty? Ask for the product warranty and the workmanship warranty separately. Ours is five years on the product (lighting excluded) and 12 months on workmanship.
- Does the installation meet South African building regulations? Installations should comply with SANS 10400, and gas installations need a certificate of conformity.
- How long until it is installed? When an item is not in stock, our lead time is about two weeks from payment to installation.
What a fireplace installation costs in Cape Town
The fireplace is only part of the cost. Installation of a freestanding unit typically runs from R6 500 to R12 000 excluding VAT, and a built-in insert from R12 000 to R25 000, depending on the flue, the wall and the access. A quote that lists the unit, flue kit and installation as separate lines is the easiest to compare between shops. Our installation page explains what is included.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a showroom visit, or can I order online? A visit is strongly recommended for a first fireplace, because size, flue route and wall type change the recommendation. You can start with a quote request and we will advise on what to bring.
Which fireplace is best for a Cape Town winter? For a lounge heated every evening, a closed-combustion or insert fireplace gives the most heat from the wood. If you want convenience over cost, gas or pellet is easier to run.
Do you install outside Cape Town? We install within 200 km of Cape Town and courier units anywhere in South Africa at additional cost.
Can I pay for the fireplace online? Ask our team for the current payment options when you request your quote.
